Palm Pixi to come with with WiFi

The Palm Pixi has been looking like a near certainty for a UK release ever since we saw a European friendly version strutting its stuff in the wild, but it’s possible it could be getting an upgrade over the current US model. Anyone fancy some Wi-Fi thrown in there? The Palm Pixi, Palm’s little webOS wonder and lower end sequel to the Pre, has been out in the US for a month now on the Sprint network. But another model of the Palm Pixi has just been given the thumbs up by the US wireless regulatory body, the FFC.

The difference? This version has Wi-Fi, the absence of which was a major letdown whith the original Palm Pixi.

Now this version of the Palm Pixi is still CDMA, meaning it won’t work over here and is likely headed to rival American network Verizon. But with Palm still to confirm anything beyond vague ambition to release the Palm Pixi over here, we’d be surprised if the model we eventually get doesn’t pack in that hotspot connection too.

With just ten days to go until Christmas, we don’t expect to be hearing anything more on a UK Palm Pixi in 2009, but with CES just around the corner, more details arrive then. Will we see the true Palm Pre sequel as well?

Introducing The Google Phone: Nexus One

Spotted at Twitter is supposedly the first image of the now infamous Google phone. This handset is a mirror of the HTC Passion image that was leaked back in October. The only thing missing is the HTC logo on the top bezel, an omission that is consistent with this being a Google-branded phone. Take this one with a pinch of salt as the purported picture taker Corey O’Brien has no apparent ties to Google. Nonetheless, the faucet has been turned on and we expect to see more images and additional information soon. The leaked images of both the Passion and the Google phone are available for your comparison after the jump.

LG IQ phone video preview

The LG IQ cell phone looks like an interesting device. It’s got a fingerprint scanner and physical keyboard. The LG IQ looks awesome! I would like to spend some time playing with it so that I can properly judge it. It runs on windows and just looks like chunky chocolate.

Sales of the Sony Ericsson Aino halted due to software glitch

This past week must have been a nightmare for Sony Ericsson, and investors alike. Earlier in the week, there was a cessation of sales of the Sony Ericsson Satio in two of the UK’s major retail outlets, as a result of a massive software glitch. Today, we learn that the Sony Ericsson Aino, like the Satio, has also been whipped away from store shelves amid customer complaints that the touchscreen was faulty — most likely as a result of the before mentioned software glitch.

With a promise for an expedient fix, Sony Ericsson’s public relations put out the following statement:

“We are working as quickly as we can to solve it. Aino has sold limited numbers in the UK and this issue affects a very small number of consumers.”

Righteous.

iPhone 3GS VS Motorola Droid VS Versus Palm Pre

ince Droid is days away from getting launched, we might as well go out and compare it to the iPhone 3GS and Palm Pre, as far as the total cost in concerned. The duel between handsets and their prices easily turns into a duel of carriers, a three way competition between Verizon, AT&T and Sprint.

The folks of BillShrink have provided the excellent comparison table below:

Turns out that the Droid and iPhone 3GS cost the exact same price in the long run, while the Pre is cheaper, although it has its drawbacks (fewer apps, less internal memory, no voice commands). Meanwhile, getting the Moto Verizon Droid with an unlimited plan will mean paying $3,799 over a 2 year period, but this handset has some strong points, to be honest.

For example, Droid outperforms the iPhone 3GS and Pre when it comes to talk time, camera quality and multitasking.
