What Are the Best Cameraphones of Summer 2009

Looking for a mobile phone that’s great for taking pictures and recording videos? Here we take a look at the best camera phones on the market.

Samsung Pixon 12

The Samsung M8910 Pixon 12 is an upgraded version of the original Pixon with stunning camera capabilities. It adds a host of other new features too, including Wi-fi. The Samsung M8910 Pixon camera has 12 megapixels, a 28mm lens, touch-autofocus, auto-panarama, image stalisation, smile detection, blink detection, xenon flash, power LED flash and more. It has a smart-auto mode, which automatically selects the correct mode based on the subject placed in front of the camera. Another cool feature is autofocus tracking, touch a person or an object on the viewfinder and the Pixon12 will track them and keep them in focus as they move. There’s a dedicated camera button and the Pixon12 can record high resolution video at 30 frames per second.

Nokia N86

The N86 is another impressive Nseries mobile from Nokia to compete on the Smartphone stage. It’s a sleek, stylish and professional looking slider phone which has both great design features and an impressive array of functions. The slider is a two way mechanism, previously seen on the Nokia N95 and N96. The screen is a decent 2.6 inch OLED which is good enough for pleasant viewing. On the back of the N86 is an active kick stand, which when opened fires up a user-defined application.

The main draw of the Nokia N86 is the very impressive 8 megapixel camera with Carl Zeiss Tessar lens. It has angle optics, autofocus, dual LED flash and geotagging facilities. The cameras capabilities are at the high end of what the N86’s peers can compete with and, along with the Symbian OS, it’s what will make this phone a popular choice

Samsung i8910 HD

The Samsung i8910 HD is an impressive addition to latest collection of Samsung touchscreen phones. It’s a trendy, sleek, professional Smartphone with a huge 3.7 inch HD display. Capable of recording HD video at an amazing 720×480 resolution and 30 frames per second, the i8910 HD is the most advanced video recording phone available. The 8 megapixel camera also has autofocus, face and smile recognition along with panoramic features and geo-tagging. As well as being a superb camera phone with exceptional video capabilities, the i8910 HD has plenty of other features to make it an all-round, high class mobile device.

The Samsung i8910 HD has GPS, Wi-Fi, HSDPA and of course Bluetooth. The 3.7 inch screen is impressive, whether you’re browsing the web, reading emails, playing games or watching widescreen movies in hi-def. With such a big display the phone is inevitably large but never feels chunky, it’s slightly longer than an iPhone but distinctly narrower.

Samsung S8300

The Samsung S8300 Tocco Ultra is a high end, high spec phone which is set to be a popular addition to Samsung’s range of touchscreen phones. This is a slim professional touch screen phone. Just 12.8mm including an attractive slider, which reveals a useful keypad. The anti-scratch TFT touch screen is an impressive 2.8 inches, which is great for navigating menus, browsing the internet, playing games or viewing photos and videos taken by the Tocco Ultra’s sexy 8 megapixel camera. The camera can take photos with a resolution up to 3264×2448 pixels. It has auto focus, a dual LED flash and it can record video at 30 frames per second. Geo-tagging, image stabilisation, face and smile recognition are all great features that assist with taking perfect snaps!

Sony Ericsson W995

The Sony Ericsson W995 is the most advanced mobile in the popular Walkman range. In terms of features it is much in the same vein as all of its predecessors but with enhancements in all areas. Externally the phone is instantly recognisable as a Walkman series. It has a slider to cover the keypad, dedicated music keys and an added innovation is its integrated kick stand which is a quirky little quality to add to its collection. The overall capabilities of the phone are impressive. The main feature is its music playing resources but with the addition of a decent 8 megapixel camera, there is an added dimension to the W995. The Camera comes with autofocus, a flash and face detection, which all help with capturing the perfect image. Along with that the phone supports geotagging and allows for picture editing and blogging.
