IPAQ 910 VS IPAQ 610

Since I got all the emails on the differences between the IPAQ 610 and 910 I wanted to post an article on the differences between these two units. I will be dividing the article into several different parts to tell you the difference and share my thoughts on it.? Currently I got the IPAQ 910 in my palms but don?t have the IPAQ 610 in my hand, but I had the benefit of using it for two and a half months. So If I don?t remember everything that?s on the IPAQ 610 be nice to me
I will talk about the units in the following parts:
- Back
- Top/Bottom
- The sides
- Front
- Software
The units:
On both units you have the camera, ok, microphone and scroll button.? The difference with the IPAQ 610 is the fact that the 910 has it?s Mini USB slot on the side. Next to the IPAQ 910 Mini USB slot you have the memory card slot.? On the HP IPAQ 610 you have the Mini USB slot on the bottom for syncing and charging and the memory card slot on the bottom. The IPAQ 910 wins this part for me since it allows an easy acess to the memory card slot and Mini USB charging and syncing.? On the back of these two units you have a 3.0 Megapixel camera.? A big difference for me with both of these two units is that on the IPAQ 910 you have an slot where you can insert a GPS antenna and that the Reset button is located on the top considering that on the 610 you have it at the bottom.
On bot the 610 and 910 IPAQ you have different style of keyboards. I?ve found that both of these two works really well but the 610 IPAQ has a really interesting feature.? You have an opictal joypad, a small wheel that you without any trouble can move up and down and scroll without any trouble at all. The 610 more symbolizes the regular type of phones. You get the feeling that your carrying a more regular type of phone then a smartphone with you. The IPAQ 910 has a Qwerty type of keyboad which I found that I could start using immediately, but on the IPAQ 610 you have a xT9 keyboard.? I had a hard time understanding the keyboard at the beginning but after a couple of days using it I knew on how to use the keyboard.
What I enjoy with these two different types of keyboards is the fact that they have managed to integrate the call out, call end and softbar buttons so well into the keyboard.? Tough they have two differences that separates them from one and another. The 910 has calendar and mail button, while the 610 has rotate screen button.
The D-pad on the IPAQ 910 is really good. You have 5 way navigation button where you press up and down where you want to go.
If we instead move over to the screen portion. On the? 610 you have a portrait screen while on the 910 you have a landscape screen. I?ve found that both of these two screens works really and gives the users two great options considering what kind of screen they want.? When using these two screen both during the American and Swedish summer i?ve found that they work really well under direct sunlight.
One interesting thing that i?ve noticed with the IPAQ 910 is that HP says that it only supports 4 GB Micro SDHC, but I inserted a 8 GB Micro SD from A-Data and it has worked without any trouble at all.
These two units works really well.? I think that the different type of hardware? really benefits the users since it gives them the option of really doing what they want.? They can pick the size and style of the unit that they want.
The software portion:
The HP IPAQ 610 is running Windows Mobile 6.0, while the HP IPAQ 910 is running Windows Mobile 6.1. What?s really interesting with both of these two devices is the fact that they both are so stable.? I usually have to reset my device every three days, which I think is really exciting because you too often run into these type of devices that you have reset a couple of times each day.
I like how the Windows Mobile build is so clean compared to other manufacturers.? Instead of the manufacturer shipping all the software that you don?t usually need with your device, HP has made software build easy to use by shipping with the the software you need such as the Messenger, Office, Internet Explorer, Google Maps and Google Search.
The IPAQ 910 and 610 both has built in world wide 3G and HSDPA.? I?ve found that both of these two units really works well radio wise. One example is the fact that i?ve used HSDPA on the IPAQ 910 with the AT&T network in the US and when I came back to Sweden i?ve used it with 3 here in Sweden and it worked really well for me.? I could surf everywhere and orb into my computer with ORB without any trouble at all.
On? both of these two device i?ve installed my 20 favourite third party software and it amazed me that both of these devices still were so stable. It were just like if they came in factory condition. It amazed me that the device still chugged along without any trouble at all.
Conclusion
When I used the IPAQ 610 and now the IPAQ 910 i?ve realised why I got my first IPAQ around gie years ago. The deatures and the hardware of these units makes them rock in my eyes. A big plus is the fact that HP have managed to create two devices that?s so stable.? Reminds me of the times that I used my old IPAQ 3600 a couple of years back. Even tough im today using the IPAQ 910 I still miss the IPAQ 610 series. It?s a great device and will continue to be one of my favourites.
